Get it right… the first time!

Here is a small taste of another designer we had the pleasure of working with for a Spring 2009 collection. Sweet Skins is a clothing line originally based in Eugene, but they’re also a perfect fit for Portland: with a focus on comfort and style, and an ongoing committment to ecologically sound practices, the new Spring ‘09 line is most definitely rooted in the green, earth-friendly values that are gaining such strength in the Portland fashion community.

Sweet Skins took a major step forward by choosing us for their first professional photoshoot, so we fashioned as complete a shot as we could on-set, and built a top-notch team. We knew of Terri’s exemplary skill at creating a fresh, flawless finish on the skin, and we had two terrific models as our canvas for style, so we got great shots from the first to the very last. The photo below? Yes, it’s a completely unretouched image! Both girls look fresh, and the clothes look great.

Don’t get us wrong: we’re not the least bit shy about retouching, and when done correctly, it can add a lot to an image without anyone knowing a retoucher was ever there.  BUT, when you get it right the first time, all in-camera, you can save your clients a lot of time, resources, and headache. And we’re definitely in favor of that!

We’ll share more from this shoot soon, and you’ll be seeing more of these images on the Sweet Skins web site, too.

Spring 2009 fashion photography

Fashions for the Spring 2009 season are coming into both online and brick-and-mortar stores, and the new pieces we shot for the Spring ‘09 collection by Portland-based designer sky & boat are now online, too. We loved the fit, the style, and the eco-friendly philosophy behind these pieces, and they’re a perfect fit for Spring. Let’s just hope the Portland weather stays as sunny and beautiful as it’s been in recent weeks!

To see our photos of all the cute, sustainable outfits you didn’t see in our preview blog post, just visit the sky & boat web site. :)

Another Featured Project

We had so much fun working with Betsy & Iya for the Fall 2008 campaign that we couldn’t help but share the final results of our collaboration on Behance.net. We all loved the results, and apparently the Behance editors did, too, because they selected our project for a front-page feature yesterday! It definitely makes us happy to be featured again amongst a number of amazing artists, especially for a client project that we enjoyed so much.

Here’s another one of our before/after sets for that project, and we definitely encourage you to visit the Betsy & Iya web site to check out the rest, and to pick up some of her amazing jewelry for yourself!

Commmercial concept photography

After several days of feeling very much like the “Before” in this set, it seems very fitting to be sharing it with you. I caught a cold just a couple days before the snow hit on Sunday, so between the sniffling, the sore throat and the cold temperatures, it’s easy to feel a bit more lethargic than usual!

Without further ado, here’s another of the before/after transformations we shot for the Betsy & Iya Fall 2008 campaign, this one inspired by Japanese street fashion, like what you might see in FRUiTS magazine.

Friday: Labels for Love!

They say the holidays are a season for giving, so in the spirit of that, we’re donating our time to Labels for Love, a fashion show and silent auction benefit! Over $31,000 in donations have been raised for auction items and raffle prizes, including clothing items from a variety of nationally-recognized labels, and all proceeds from the event will go to the Oregon Food Bank!

We  definitely encourage you to check out the event, and help the hungry with your holiday shopping dollars! We’ll be serving as official photographers for the event, and we’ll also have a booth with information about our portrait and wedding packages, so feel free to stop by and ask us more about what we do.

We also recently did a promotional shoot for the show, featuring actual clothing items donated for the event. Special thanks goes to our amazing team of professionals who, like us, donated their time and resources to make this promo shoot look its best!

betsy & iya Fall 2008 campaign

This week marks the launch of a new web site for betsy & iya jewelry, featuring the Fall 2008 campaign we shot in our studio. It was a hectic day of shooting, involving five talented models, each with their own unique before-and-after looks, the tireless work of a makeup artist and a hairstylist, all built around large, ornate, and amazing pieces of jewelry!

We had a great team that clicked wonderfully, so the creative energy flowed with incredible ease, and our models each did an amazing job of conveying their hilarious “before” looks, and their gorgeous “after” transformations. It was definitely one of the more fun ways we’ve spent an 8-hour day!

Here’s just one of the before-and-after sets we shot that day. It’s hard for us to choose a favorite, so you’ll likely be seeing more of these from us in the near future.

sky & boat: Spring 2009 Fashion Preview

Thanks to a little word of mouth, we got a sneak peek at the Spring 2009 collection by Portland-based designer sky & boat, when they got in touch with us about shooting their new designs! All of the new pieces were hot off the presses, made from organic fibers, and hand-dyed, which made for really cute, wearable, and sustainable fashions. One of the things that’s great about Portland is the strength of the sustainable fashion movement here in town, so we’re always excited to support it!

The overall feel we went for was clean, fresh, and “naked,” as the designer put it. We also played with the idea of having our model act like she was in her bedroom, trying on different outfits and checking herself in the mirror, with the pile of clothes on the floor growing over the course of the shoot. Basically, a catalog shoot with a twist!

These are just a few of the many, many outfits we shot that day. Everything looked great, and the fit was wonderfully flattering. Hair and makeup is provided by Amy Vaillancourt-Sals and Kishawna, and our model is Amber S. (Option)

Betsy & Iya: Product Photos

We recently got our first crack at the amazing pieces created by jewelry designer Betsy & Iya, when we got together to do product photography for some of her latest pieces! Betsy makes an amazing variety of pieces, from all kinds of different materials, and this is just a very small taste of what she’ll be offering on her soon-to-be-redesigned website.

Stay tuned for Part II of our project with her: photos showcasing some of her largest, most gorgeous pieces, transporting a few lovely ladies into their own stylish worlds! We’re really pleased to be working with her on both aspects of the project, and we’re enjoying working with her on bringing this next part of her vision to life.

On the Set

We’re happy to be working with the production team for the upcoming feature film, Belmont, which is set to begin filming in 2009. Although the bulk of the filming isn’t scheduled for another few months, the principal cast members have already been chosen, and we got our first taste of things to come, when the cast and crew came together to create the footage for a new trailer. We were there to document the whole process, and there’s a lot of great talent involved in the production, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

It was two days of indoor shooting, in toasty summer weather, so between the lighting equipment and the sound dampening, the room got hot and stuffy in a hurry! But, everyone poured their energy into making it a great shoot, and even with the occasional break for outside air, the shoot wrapped on schedule.

Here are just a few photos from the second day of shooting. More after the cut!
